Day 4 – Do
Do, whatever it takes – legally, morally and ethically please. Some of my peers promote the human being as opposed to human doing concept. That, of course, is a possibility. What if you chose to be born into a human body so that you could taste, feel, hear, smell, touch and experience emotion? What if you wanted to gain intimate knowledge of good and evil? Would you, for a few short paragraphs, be willing to entertain the thought that we are human beings intentionally doing an earthly thing?
For example:
-
Spirit cannot taste a sweet berry, salty chip or sour pickle. Cannot enjoy the sound of music or a baby's first cry. Arguably neither loves, nor hates or feels pain or pleasure.
-
As we use a plane, train or automobile to transport our physical form around the planet; metaphorically, spirit uses the physical form we call a human body to experience the wonders of our human life.
-
Controversial, I know, but I even imagine that spirit wishes to experience illness, injury and terror as well as joy, pleasure and fun! Our heroes are often born from tragedy, i.e., 9/11.
Thoughts: Throughout time we, human beings, have been drawn to tragedy, gore, violence, sex and drama. How do you explain ancient Rome's fascination with gladiators? Did you know that people took picnic lunches to watch the battle of Bull Run at Manassas, VA from a nearby hill? What about modern day video games, WWE, paint ball, haunted houses, realistic amusements at theme parks? Why is it that major box office successes historically have not been clean, family fun themes? Why when I write a book must I have a conflict and five pivotal points around what could go wrong with the hero, heroine and antagonist(s)…? That most places in the US outlawed dog fights, cock fights is a step in the right direction; but what does it say about human nature that these activities must be outlawed? Could it be that boxing remains legal because death doesn't typically happen in the ring? We certainly can choose to view many forms of death on television, in books and of course, movies.
I surmise that our human nature is to be innately predisposed toward "negatives". While this may be our natural predisposition, what if we are intended to "mature" beyond, transcend or outgrow the need for the dark side of things and instead, prefer the "good"? In fact, human doings to choose "good" every time, always, all ways. When this possibility was posed to a group of people in a classroom setting one time, the response was: "that would be boring!"
