The Secret teaches that there are three steps to the Law of Attraction:
1. Ask
2. Answer
3. Receive
The first two are easy; step three a challenge.
Why?
Because what we receive is always aligned but not always with what we think we want – most often, it is aligned with what your unconscious mind wants.
May I share a personal story? After watching the movie What the Bleep? I placed labels on all my water bottles announcing to God and my Genie that I want "wealth" - guess what I attracted -everything I ever HATED about wealth!
My conscious want and my unconscious judgment and memories database were not aligned. Because survival is the most powerful instinct - to avoid pain, my genie protected instead of provided me! I did not receive what I CONSCIOUSLY wanted! I did get what I UNCONSCIOUSLY wanted - survival and protection from harm.
While my conscious mind had a few token affirmations and a desire, my unconscious was much more heavily weighted with judgments and perceptions of how being wealthy would cause me pain. Ever the dedicated protector as well as provider, my Genie created an invisible, and effective, energy force field that protected me from the pain and suffering I associated to wealth.
So, I did receive what I wanted just not what I requested!
What can be done about this? What can be done so that what we consciously want matches what we unconsciously want? And, will that make sure we get what we consciously want?
1. Learn what is hidden in the unconscious
2. Validate its legitimacy
3. Replace, repair or modify either what is in unconscious or what you want consciously
What is hidden, what is it that appears to be the saboteur of hopes, dreams and wishes: the database record of everything that you have ever seen, heard or experienced directly or indirectly – stored as beliefs. Stored beliefs are sorted, categorized and filed as values – or “what is important to you about…”
Many of the beliefs, perceived, judged and formed in times of intense stress, were distorted and are out of date. When you look at one, distanced from the initial event and emotions, you can evaluate and modify it to fit your current circumstances, conditions and knowledge. Ask yourself:
· Is this true?
· If it is true; what can you do to modify either your goal or its circumstances and conditions to create safety?
· Was it true at the time but now, through the eyes of maturity and more knowledge, it is false?
· What belief empowers, enables and fuels your goal?
Commonly known examples:
· True belief transformed from limitation to empowering, enabling and fueling belief – space shuttles Challenger 1986 and Columbia 2003. Following two very real space shuttle tragedies revealed weaknesses in the space program that, once corrected and strengthened, develops an even stronger space program than existed before. The good that comes out of bad.
· False belief revealed and replaced to empower, enable and fuel new goals – the earth is flat. Discovering that they would not, as commonly and collectively believed, sail off the edge of the planet, inspired European explorers to sail to the Americas. Replacing a false belief with a new truth removed a barrier that opened new opportunities on a grand scale.
